THE BIG TIME!

Columbus Avenue around Broadway has the scale of a big city. It's one of those places where one starts to feel like a tiny figure on a great mural! Not Times Square, but vast, in its own way, with an impersonality borne of giant, gaudy, strip and night club marquees, traffic, and the tourists, and the teeeming, pedestrian traffic of Stockton Avenue in Chinatown.

I walked quickly up this great, honking thoroughfare, stopping to take shots of the justly famous Jazz Mural and the colorful Zapatista mural on the back of City Lights books. I stopped in City Lights on my return walk, and wrote a poem there, that you can read on a later page.
