LOVE IS SUCH A WORRY AND BOTHER!

Love is such a worry and bother!
Like an elegant garden
It needs tending every moment—
Weeds to pull and pests to get rid of.
Tender shoots need so much care.

Always a new predicament.
The watchman can never get any sleep.

And it isn't just the simple weeds.
Every new day seems to bring
A new bag of tricks:
No rain, or else a flood—
No sun, or a blazing fire of one—
Manmade runoff, poisoning the soil.

This tiny Garden is my Soul
That I must tend with patience,
Courage, tenderness, and strength—

Though the world
Could not care less.
