DELTA, UTAH TO THE I-70 INTERCHANGE
Above: anywhere, USA looking back on the main drag of Delta, Utah from its eastern
outskirts. It's a nice town with a great diner. A guy doesn't really need much more than that.

In this part of Utah, there are farms and farm animals, unlike the wilderness I'd come through and the one to follow.
The mountains are lovely, just not as spectacular as some other parts of Utah.
There's even some green, thanks to this hardy species of bush. Please help me identify it. The "Utah Flora" website is about real estate!
The Dinosaur As Symbol? I haven't seen Sinclair gas stations in the parts of the country I frequent, since the '50s. Turns out they're quite plentiful in the Rocky Mountain region, but I didn't know that when I saw this first station. My imagination delighted, because in much of the state, I felt sort of like I was in the '50s. For example, none of the convenience stores along the highway had decaf. You do that in California, and you may get a brick through your window.

Never play cards with a man called Doc. Never eat at a place called Mom's. Never sleep with a woman whose troubles are worse than your own." Nelson Algren.
Note: I didn't.

Here's where I finally got onto Interstate 70. I didn't know there was still a vast distance, I think 108 miles, to Green River, with no services whatever. I found myself on a beautifully-maintained interstate with an armchair view of the most awe-inspiring geological formations I've ever seen! On and on went the display! My digital camera was broken and my disposable camera was full. We'll have to make do with a few pictures others have let me use, and what my pen recorded. I hope that will convey the grandeur. |
